  1. Either way, it doesn’t matter to the guy with a fuze in his frontal lobe…

    One imagines that the helmet wasn’t on anyone when it got hit…I doubt the helmet would have come off the head without the shell coming out of the head first. Basically the world’s most dangerous set screw…

  2. I vaguely remember seeing that picture before, and I want to say that it was excavated on a battlefield with no associated skeletal remains, so… The supposition was that mortar round and helmet made their connection without there being an actual human being involved.

    I know I’ve seen this photo before, but I’ll be damned if I can remember the rest of the context beyond the above…

    I can, however, safely say that if someone was wearing that thing when the round hit, they’re almost certainly dead. The energy involved would have had to have turned most of their cervical vertebrae into gravel, let alone what the penetration of the skull itself did…
