    I’ve been waging a one-man campaign against the mis-use of the term “billet” since the last 10 years.

    And losing.

  2. I always used billet to refer to bar stock but the meaning seems to have evolved into “not cast or forged”…or even a purely aesthetic style.

    Am I seeing an aluminum part machined to a faux carbon fiber finish? I’d like the think we’ve jumped the shark but am sure the silliness will continue.

  3. Understood – I’ve ordered a good pile of that stuff to make various bits for rocket motors. Some of the suppliers sold “billet” in heat treated form…heck, we used 6” diameter graphite “billets”. I guess I’d chalk that up to definition drift.
