Virginia “Assault Weapons” Ban Defeated

Good news this morning for once.

RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam‘s push to ban the sale of assault weapons has failed after members of his own party balked at the proposal.

Senators voted to shelve the bill for the year and ask the state crime commission to study the issue, an outcome that drew cheers from a committee room packed with gun advocates.

Four moderate Democrats joined Republicans in Monday’s committee vote, rejecting legislation that would have prohibited the sale of certain semiautomatic firearms, including popular AR-15 style rifles, and banned the possession of magazines that hold more than 12 rounds.

The bill was a top priority for Northam, a Democrat who has campaigned heavily for a broad package of gun-control measures.

No doubt the same bill will pop back up later , and there are still a bunch of anti-gun bills attempting to be pushed through. Don’t relax if you live in VA. You have to keep on them.

  1. Wow what amazing news! That is a huge victory for the 2nd amendment. The key is for Virginian’s to now go on the offensive in the November election against those who have tried to take their rights.

  2. Wat to go folks in Virginia! You have bought yourself some time to fight back on the soap box/ballot box/jury box along with citizens being able to obtain items the govt. wants to ban.I hope the folks use this time well and the rest of the country and it’s citizens work towards similar goals of ending kind of legal nonsense once and for all. There is a long road ahead to reach these goals and we all need to do what we can to obtain them.
