Well this turned into a real soup sandwich. But you know what they say about good intentions..
A Massachusetts man who was being mauled by two pit bulls was shot and killed by a crossbow fired by a neighbor trying to stop the vicious onslaught, authorities said.
I bet when he thought of all the ways he might died, shot by crossbow while being mauled by dogs never figured into that list of potential horrors. Poor guy.
The victim, who has not been identified, was fatally struck by an arrow Wednesday as he was attempting to barricade himself behind a door inside his apartment in Adams, according to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office.
A neighbor heard a commotion and called police before entering the man’s apartment and using a crossbow to shoot at the two male pit bulls — both of which had a history of acting aggressively, prosecutors said. Breed of peace.
“The arrow struck one of the dogs, went through a door, and then struck the individual being mauled as he was attempting to barricade himself from the attack,” a statement released by the office reads.”
That is just tragic right there.
An investigation into the incident is still ongoing, but the man’s death appears to be accidental. Good job detective.
Neither the victim nor the neighbor — who has been characterized as a “good Samaritan” — had been identified as of early Thursday, according to district attorney spokesman Andrew McKeever.
This is why I never try to help anyone. One day you are trying to pull some one out of a burning car, then the next thing you know you accidentally toss them over a mountain in a trebuchet. These things happen.
“At this point it is too early in the investigation to determine whether or not there will be any charges at all,” McKeever wrote in an email. “The person who shot the crossbow is cooperating with authorities.”
A child was also found unhurt in a nearby room. The dogs, meanwhile, were shot and killed by responding officers who found the animals engaged in a “volatile confrontation” at the time, prosecutors said.
Glad at least the Police got to do the one thing they are truly good at in all this mess.
