Top. Man. Loses Car Control, Then Everything Else

I’m not sure what to make of this story. Cop wrecks his car, then gets a gun and offs himself. Did he lose it at the thoughts of being fired from his job as a Top.Man. because he was DUI? Was there a hooker’s body in the trunk with 100 pounds of heroin? Insurance deductible too high? Guilt from shooting too many dogs? Total mental break down or demon possession? Whatever was tormenting him I hope he found peace.

MATAWAN — An off-duty Roselle police officer fatally shot himself Sunday after crashing his car on Broad Street in Matawan, according to Christopher Swendeman, spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

The man, whose name was not released, is a 39-year-old Aberdeen resident, Swendeman said.

He appeared to have lost control of his car about 12 p.m. near 208 Broad St., struck two parked cars and then partially rolled his vehicle, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

As first responders left the vehicle to get equipment to help with the extraction, the driver located a firearm and fatally shot himself in the head,” Swendeman said in an email to the Press.

No further information was immediately available.

  1. Having dealt with people who’re suffering head injuries in the past, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was no real reason he committed suicide. Some of those folks get awfully irrational, and not in a good way.

Just be grateful he didn’t do like one of mine did, and start thinking that the people trying to get him out of his wrecked vehicle were insurgents trying to get at him to finish him off. That situation got ugly, in a hurry–They damn near had to shoot him in order to get at the rest of the people in the vehicle, because he kept threatening to shoot the guys trying to get the CASEVAC going. He was convinced they were the bad guys…

TBI ain’t no joke, and it does really weird things to people’s perceptions, especially in the moments after the injury. This guy could have thought that the car was on fire, and didn’t want to burn to death, or any number of things. I always try to be charitable with these deals, until you find out if there was a dead hooker in his trunk–Ya never know, and there but for the Grace of God may go we.

    • good point, I drove up to a kid who I had just saw get T-boned after pulling out on a highway without looking, As I walked up I could see his brains leaking out and he kept reaching up to adjust his rearview mirror. He was on his way to his high school graduation. Last I heard he was perma-veggie.
