I’ve always really liked the “pistil belt” used in WW2. I don’t know if it’s from movies or pictures and history books or what, but I think its iconic. Even our allies and enemies in WW2 thought “cowboy” when they encountered a GI with a belt and leather holster with a big .45 on his hip. And really it is more or less a then updated version of that. gun and belt.
It figures that it is so close to the old west look since it was developed right after the turn of the century. With the belt and the leather 1916 holster. Some version of it even went into Mexico in the punitive expedition.
It’s not Kydex but it lasted in US service for longer than the M1911 did as official service pistol. It finally ended up as a black leather version. It’s still a classic piece of Americana and is still a pretty nifty choice for a camp or hiking holster where maybe draw speed isn’t your primary concern but being fully covered is. Pacific Canvas and Leather makes a nice and affordable repro if you get the hots for one on this 75th anniversary of D-Day coming up. I have a couple of theirs as well as a M3 shoulder holster and they have held up great over the last 5 years.
