FN FNS Safety Bulletin

This video from the Arizona Department of Public Safety covers a safety issue found in the FN FNS pistol

  • If the trigger is pulled while the gun is out of battery, and the trigger is held, it may fire when it returns to battery.
  • If the trigger is pulled while the gun is out of battery, and the trigger is release, the gun may fire when bumped after it has returned to battery.

That second issue is pretty bad.

I read that Arizona DPS solved the issue by upgrading to Glocks.

The FNS has been discontinued and the newer FN FN509 does not have this issue.

  1. Yeah, I checked my serial number and it’s in the affected batch. Though I couldn’t replicate the problem. I still have an RMA in with FN, but I’ve been dragging my feet actually sending it off.

    Bummer 🙁

I’m kind of done with FN pistols, though. I like them, but they discontinue and replace models so quickly that they never really gain market support.

  2. Springfield and S&W seem to have made places for themselves in the Glock-off world, but pity the also-rans like FN and Beretta.

    But this? This is inexcusable.

It’s also additional fodder for the “don’t bet your life on new designs” argument.
