Norgon Ambi-Catch

One of my favorite little upgrade for the AR15 is the Norgon Ambi-Catch.

This is a drop in replacement magazine catch that gives you the ability to release the magazine from the left side the of rifle.  Certainly not necessary to have, but very nice to have.

I picked up another couple last week.  I never noticed it was designed to be easily disassembled for cleaning if necessary.

It is very easy to take apart with a small punch, and goes back together very easily.

This is my absolute favorite left side magazine release, and I highly recommend it.  It is easy to install, easy to use, durable and simple.  I think it should be standard on the AR15 family of weapons.

I know the Canadian military uses them.  I’ve seen documents claiming that the US Military is authorized to use the Norgon Ambi-Catch per the commanders discretion, but I haven’t heard of our troops actually fielding them.

  1. Is there any real reason beyond say loaning firearm to a lefty that one would need say this and ambi selector as a right handed person. The only thing I could think of is perhaps badly hurt but feel if hurt that bad am probably not able to shoot effectively anyhow. As the parts not too expensive and easy install perhaps will do it just for s&g’s,the few times have tried shooting left handed with either a rifle or pistol have done very poorly but guess perhaps need to look at it as starting from scratch in many ways.

    • I like ambidextrous controls as they give you more options on how to manipulate the weapon. With something like the Norgon you can release the mag with your thumb when you grab the mag from either side or either hand. Or you can release the mag with your trigger finger from either hand.

    • Wow, I haven’t purchased from Brownells for a while. You’ve just reminded me why.
If money is an issue, Arms Unlimited sells a knock-off.

  2. I will give one a try, but, guess not from Brownells(do like em and their prices on some stuff),the other James posting,am wondering though a knock off might be junk and ruin any gain I might feel I would get, will do a little homework.

  3. As a lefty here. This kinda reminds me of one of the biggest issues righties would complain about our MK17s. Dropping mags by accident when hitting the ambi mag release with their plate/mags. Which was pretty easy to do.
