Updated – Safety Bulletin for the Ruger Precision Rifle

New Ruger Bolt Shroud

I received a replacement bolt shroud from Ruger yesterday.  The new bolt shroud is on the left, the original on the right.

If you own a Ruger Precision Rifle, I would highly recommend you check if your rifle falls under the safety notice.  If it does, get the replacement bolt shroud.  It is not good to have a firearm that might not fire when you need it and worse might fire when you don’t want it.

The Ruger Safety Bulletin can be found here.

Turns out some Ruger Precision Rifles may have a potential safety issue due to the design of the bolt shroud.  Ruger is offering a replacement bolt shroud for the rifles that may have this issue.  More information can be found here.

Of course, it was giving that my rifle fell right into the middle of the serial number range that could have this issue.  I have had any issues with my rifle, but I have gone ahead and requested the replacement bolt should just to be safe.

It is always good to keep up with the news on your firearms.  It is good to know if any unexpected issues are turning up.

  1. Ok,read the whole alert and for folks not comfortable replacing the shroud themselves Ruger will do it no charge to you,was initially a little ticked when saw they were mailing out shrouds but with both options seems they are doing the best they can, kudos to them.
